For those that are were once Muslim.

You can share your experience of life living as a Muslim.

Every day, it was the worry of performing Namaaz, even if I would be busy in my work. If I arrived late in the night and was very tired even then I had this tension of performing salah. I used to dread arrival of Ramzan as I could never concentrate in my work due to hunger.

I would never go in any hotels which were not owned by Muslim due the fear of Non-Halal meat. I could never buy my house by taking a loan due to Interest issue but lived in rented apartment. I was laughing stroke in my company and used to feel shy due to wearing my pants above the ankle like a joker. Used to keep beard even though I never liked as it used to itch and was very irritating.

On the positive side I had made many friends in my muslim circle. Was excited in celebrating Eid and attending all religious lectures of islamic scholars.

This was in brief my life when I was a Muslim.

It was a DEAD LIFE, I was dead. I have forgotten who I was.
Time was regulated by praying time. I was doing my very best to obey my husband's orders, no matter how stupid they were, which implied bottling in just about everything and crying alone whenever this was possible as tears were not allowed (they still aren't).
I had no friends and felt extremely depressed, like an old woman without any prospects, a multi-function tool which had to somehow find enough power to work almost round the clock to fulfill the various tasks required from it.
Praying the fagr was a real ordeal, not because of the time as such but more so because I was more aware of the absurdity of Islam around that relatively quiet time. Besides, I always strongly disliked the voices of the muezzins who sound like goats to me.

On the other hand, people were warmer and far more welcoming towards me than they are now. I was the foreign Muslim to be displayed with a sense of pride and achievement.
I couldn't handle those long sleeves in the summer and that veil on my face. I sweat so much, it was unbearable.

To sum-up, it was an absolute prison though I was free to go out as I pleased. Ironically, once you are kept in a cage because you are no longer a Muslim is also the time when you discover that freedom is mostly in the mind and the heart. I got them back. Please let me try and forgive myself for the stupid and gigantic mistake I had made for which I'm entirely responsible and hope not to have to pay for for the rest of my days.

You leared Islams truth from this site????? :/ That is like learning to count by reading a cook book.

Since I came to islam, 3 years ago, my life has been hard with trying to change my bad habbits and opinions, also I have experienced so much hate and mocking against me simply because I am a white Muslim, my work life has been difficult, my social life also has been difficult - but it has also been full of blessings and happyness which outweighs the bad, and on the whole, I am much more content and pleased with my existance.

I was a social drinker and a social drug user when I was a teen and young man - I loved to party and be with girls too - I guess removing these bad habbits was one of the most difficult things. I had to change my glasses and see life from a new perspective, one that avoided indulging in carnal pleasure and following my own desires ( the babel tower comes to mind) as and when it pleased me, living more like an animal with animal desires and instiincts - to being a more structured, socially aware, compassionate and thoughtful person.

Thankfully I was never rascist :)

Are you a Muslim or an Atheist? I read your post and it's telling us that you have been a Muslim for 3 years. I read a couple of other posts you made and you seemed to be an Atheist. Sorry it's not clear to me. Would you care to clarify, please? Thank you.

@ abdullahinislam

mark my words: you will become an apostate sometime soon (within 5 years at most). I have read a few of your posts and I can see that you have been brainwashed to think like a typical Muslim... one day you will wake up and start cursing your Muslim "brothers".

@ apostate

I also hated/still hate fasting during Ramadan... and indeed a lot of those Muazzins sound like goats... I never wore short 'pants' though (but I do wear shorts). I laughed out loud when I read you wore short jeans! Muslims are so big on SYMBOLISM!

regards.

Well, we shall see but I am very happy as a Muslim, far more so than when I was Christian or even when I was "driven by animal instincts and selfish desire" - and I have not been brainwashed, I have studied the documents and supporting historical accounts and come to my own conclusions about the religion - I am not being beaten on by a Mullah or Imaam.

Oh, and I rarely curse anyone so do not see that happening ;)

Cheers

@Debunker,

I still miss those discussions I had with you; it was fun arguing with you.

Regards, and all the best in your endeavor.
Islam is a funny religion which is misunderstood by its scholars and correctly understood by ordinary Muslims.
Faith is keeping your eyes shut when looking at the world, and/or keeping your eyes open only for the beauty of the world.

@ charles & chiclets

I missed both of you very much. :heartbeat: :heartbeat: . I also missed a few more people here (even MBL! :) ). I think this place has become more like a social club to me. My plan was to never visit this place, but once I had a chance to take a break, I found myself here again... I'm afraid (yet hoping) when I'm completely done with my PhD (hopefully within 3 months from now) I'll become a regular member again...

Chiclets, do you think FFI is not banned in my country? (you know what country I'm talking about). Is there a list of countries where FFI is known to be banned? I guess I'll have to check with ixolite if you don't know the answer.

@ abdullah

See? that's an example of how a brainwashed Muslim thinks: "Ooh, I'm so superior to everyone else because I'm a Muslim!"... I really wish you lived in a Muslim city to know who the real animals are... and I'm not talking about poor Muslim cities, even the wealthiest Muslims are behaving like animals towads each other. Envy, greed, extreme rudeness, treachery, deceit, injustice, hypocricy and a whole lot of lying! In fact, lying is the basic common denominator among average Muslims.

But I'm at loss, really. Didn't you notice any of that among your Muslim "brothers" in the UK? or are they still treating you like royalty since you converted? The thing is I can't believe they can keep up the charade for too long and sooner or later they'll drop the mask and reveal their true rotten faces. Then again, perhaps you're too blind to see their truth and are enjoying the special attention you're getting from them?... well, it won't last... as soon as you start acting rationally and question their baloney, you'll fall out of favor. I bet you wear their disgusting Muslim clothing.. you know, the funny hat or towel on the head, Afghanistani clothes and the rest of this sh!t. So tell me, were you spineless enough to change your name?! Those fuckers are not happy for you because they don't give a damn about you. To those idiots, your converting only helps inflate their own tiny self-esteem. To them, your becoming subservient enough so as to change the name your parents gave you and wear their stupid clothes helps mitigate their deep feelings of inferiority. The poor lads think that by subjugating your likes they are actually proving the inferiority of the West! I can imagine them thinking: "Look at this morally bankrupt Westerner! He came to us begging for guidance and enlightenment!"

Frankly, I read only a few of your posts, but I can clearly see that you have been brainwashed. Sooner or later you'll get tired of the tyranny of those dwarfs trying to ride your back. To them you're only a tool to help ease the pain of their insignificance.

You are welcome and I suppose you are under an obligation to return back to your country??? and there are people who access FFI from your country and technically one can never stop a site from being visited. It is not that difficult to work around such bans.
Good luck.

indeed i'm obliged to go back...

i don't have a nice experience with these methods overcoming censorship (used to try to access banned news web sites, and had to change tactics every now and then).

anyway, it's unlikely they'd ban FFI because it's not an Arabic site + it's non political...

Blah- I feel crap now about this: Welcome back Debunker! I feel crap about it because it's taken me so long to say it... ah well. As you well know, I do wish you all the best. I've got at least a year before my thesis comes up, but I'm planning for it already because I know how it can just creep up on you if you're not careful.
