"Let me be very clear: we monitor the risks of violent extremism taking root here in the United States," Napolitano said in a written statement issued by her department. "We don't have the luxury of focusing our efforts on one group; we must protect the country from terrorism whether foreign or homegrown, and regardless of the ideology that motivates its violence."
The department's office of intelligence and analysis distributed the report to state and local law enforcement agencies April 7. The office regularly publishes intelligence analyses of domestic and international threats to the nation's borders and infrastructure.
The report drew sharp criticism from Republican lawmakers, conservatives and veterans groups, who said it unfairly targeted returning military veterans and gun rights advocates without citing specific threats. The report said the return of military veterans facing challenges with reintegrating into their communities "could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks."
"To characterize men and women returning home after defending our country as potential terrorists is offensive and unacceptable," House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) said in a statement. "The Department of Homeland Security owes our veterans an apology."
American Legion National Commander David K. Rehbein sent a letter to Napolitano calling the report incomplete and politically biased. The secretary plans to meet with Rehbein next week when she returns from a series of trips, according to her statement.
Aides said privately that the secretary regrets that critics have construed the report's language to suggest that the department perceives a threat from veterans, noting that the department's various agencies employ thousands of military veterans and that some of Napolitano's deputies once served in uniform.
"We are on the lookout for criminal and terrorist activity but we do not -- nor will we ever -- monitor ideology or political beliefs," Napolitano said in the statement. "We take seriously our responsibility to protect the civil rights and liberties of the American people, including subjecting our activities to rigorous oversight from numerous internal and external sources."
She was not defending it this morning but making plenty excuses, when she was asked did she see the report and sign off on it she began to double triple talk like any politicans who got busted and couldn't defend the report with any real facts..

The interrogation techniques sanctioned by George Bush's administration were disclosed by Barack Obama last night to avoid "an inaccurate accounting of the past," which would "fuel erroneous and inflammatory assumptions about actions taken by the United States."
Certain aspects of the documents are redacted – including the names of CIA officials – but the four memos written by Bush lawyers as a guideline for interrogators offer an unprecedented look inside the methods used as the perpetrators of 9/11 and their cohorts were hunted down.
Water-boarding, which is banned by international human rights law, was one of the 'torture' methods used.
The Justice Department memo dated May 10, 2005, admitted that "we find that the use of the waterboard constitutes a threat of imminent death". "It creates in the subject the uncontrollable physiological sensation that the subject is drowning."
However, it said, "in the absence of prolonged mental harm, no severe mental pain or suffering would have been inflicted, and the use of these procedures would not constitute torture within the meaning of the statute".
Other methods included placing an insect in a "confinement box", was used as a tactic against Abu Zubaydah, the first top al-Qaeda member to be seized. Interrogators planned to tell Zubaydah they were putting a stinging inset in the box but it would actually be harmless "such as a caterpillar".
In "walling", the interrogator was allowed to pull a detainee towards him then slam him against a "flexible false wall" in a technique designed to create a loud sound and shock the prisoner. A detainee may be walled once to make a point or 20 to 30 times when interrogation required "a more significant response to a question".
Sleep deprivation methods included shackling prisoners in a standing position for two or three days, and in one case for 180 hours.
The memos regularly stress how the methods would limit "severe mental pain or suffering" and so avoid crossing the line into torture.
Scientific attention was paid to keeping up prisoners' food and liquid intake. "Calorie requirement: the CIA follows as a guideline a calorie requirement of 900 kcal/day + 10 kcal/kg/day," one memo read.
The CIA, which two years ago announced it had stopped waterboarding, aimed to exploit Muslim detainees' unease at being naked.
"Nudity: This technique is used to cause psychological discomfort, particularly if a detainee, for culture or other reasons, is especially modest," a memo recommended.
The memos were authored in 2002 and 2005 by Jay Bybee and Steven Bradbury, who at the time were lawyers for George W Bush's Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel.

I don't think this one is torture though. I'm pretty sure I could survive a stinging insect----Say a bee, biting fly, or a fire ant, or even a chigger. I might get agitated if it were maybe a giant japanese hornet though. I saw a special on them once, and they are some mean things. About 30 of them can take down an entire beehive, but I'm not sure how bad their sting would be (no pun intended).
But I guess I would start getting nervous if it were something venomous like a Black widow spider or a scorpion. These things could potentially kill you. And I'm sure a bunch of tarantulas could be pretty scary. There's a giant, bird-eating, variety that's from South america.
Even a beetle, mosquito, or a hissing cockroach wouldn't be that terrifying. It'd be like those people on fear factor that get placed in that glass coffin filled with bugs.

The pattern is clear. Obama is an agent of Islam (likely the radical sort). He also bowed and kiss-pecked the Saudi King's ring. The other heads of state were laughing and confused by his awkward action . Muslim subjects kiss the ring of their master .. this is a truism in the Muslim world.
Also, he hasn't been to church since election, and the church he did attend had the Hamas Manifesto on the wall. Pastor Wright was a Muslim only one year before (as cited in a popular public magazine pointed out by Rush Limbaugh) becoming Christian. Fact is, Muslims rarely become Christians.
Another thing to note, is a lot of in his recent administrative assignments are Muslims!

Amidst all of the American flags and presidential seals, there was something missing when President Barack Obama gave an economic speech at Georgetown University this week -- Jesus. Watch Video
A decision to cover up a symbol of Jesus for the president's speech at Georgetown is upsetting many.
The White House asked Georgetown to cover a monogram symbolizing Jesus' name in Gaston Hall, which Obama used for his speech, according to CNSNews.com.
The gold "IHS" monogram inscribed on a pediment in the hall was covered over by a piece of black-painted plywood, and remained covered over the next day, CNSNews.com reported.
The Washington Times' Belief Blog asked the university about the presidential request:
Julie Bataille from the university's press office e-mailed me that the White House had asked that all university signage and symbols behind the stage in Gaston Hall be covered.
"The White House wanted a simple backdrop of flags and pipe and drape for the speech, consistent with what they've done for other policy speeches," she wrote. "Frankly, the pipe and drape wasn't high enough by itself to fully cover the IHS and cross above the GU seal and it seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context."
While the "IHS" directly behind where Obama spoke was covered over, CNSNews.com said the monogram was still visible in 26 other places in the hall during his speech. Those areas just weren't as prominent.
The Belief Blog talked with the Rev. Thomas Reese, a senior fellow at the Woodstock Institute at Georgetown University, who said he didn't think "this is motivated by theology, but by communications strategy."
The blog also talked with Catholic University spokesman Victor Nakas, who felt a bit more strongly on the subject:
"I can’t imagine, as the bishops’ university and the national university of the Catholic Church, that we would ever cover up our religious art or signage for any reason," Mr. Nakas wrote. "Our Catholic faith is integral to our identity as an institution of higher education."
Scott Horton reports that Senate Republicans are threatening to filibuster several of Obama's legal appointees if he decides to publicly release the various Bush administration memos authorizing torture techniques (...) the motivation for this threatened filibuster is almost surreal in its degeneracy. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the nominees themselves and everything to do with preventing the further public embarrassment of Bush administration officials who authorized illegal torture techniques against detainees. This is apparently what animates the modern GOP.
There's really only one way to respond to this sort of a threat, and that's to call the GOP's bluff. (...) Once the cat is out of the bag and the media attention has focused on the content of the memos (which will be completely indefensible from a legal or political standpoint), the baseness of the GOP's motives here will be on full display. The memos will underscore the correctness of the statements that Koh and Johnsen have made that put them in the GOP's cross hairs to begin with. The Obama administration cannot let the GOP get away with this sort of blackmail.
The real resistance, it appears, is to the public disclosure of an official government document approving specific techniques that amount to torture. This degree of specificity and the government's request for approval of specific techniques does not appear in the original torture memos already released to the public. It is one thing to read a memo reading the torture statute ridiculously narrowly; it is another to read a memo stating that the OLC has been asked whether techniques X, Y, and Z violate the criminal law and reaching the conclusion that the law permits them or else the law is unconstitutional. Reading such memos brings us much closer to a specific government order to engage in torture. (...)
One thing is clear. Astute politicians must have judged that the disclosure of these torture memos may significantly change the stakes of politics. They fear that these memos will have a powerful effect on public opinion. That, however, is another reason not to give into this form of political blackmail against Koh and Johnsen and release the memos immediately. Once these documents are released, it will be harder to keep out of government people who have condemned torture and illegality for a very long time.

Earth to Michelle Malkin Michelle Malkin is completely bent out of shape over the release of a Department of Homeland Security report analyzing the risk of violence in the coming years from radical right wing extremist groups. One of the report's rather obvious conclusions is that the combination of the current economic climate (record unemployment) and the current political climate (Democrats in control the government, black man with Muslim-sounding name as President) is a recipe for increased violence among fringe right wing groups.
Malkin seems to think this report represents some sort of plot by leftists in the Obama administration to target people like herself and her merry band of teabaggers. Implicit in her rant is the notion that there couldn't possibly be any legitimate concerns underlying this report. The reality, though, is that this report was almost surely written by a career analyst at DHS, not a partisan operative, and its conclusions are as obvious as they are non-controversial.
I wonder if Malkin happens to remember what the single deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil was prior to 9/11. That's right, it was the 1995 bombing in Oklahoma City that killed 168 people (many of them children) and wounded over 800. And it was carried out by right wing extremists. (...)
There's a huge irony in Malkin's paranoia, too. For the last few years, she and her pals have been vigorously defending the Bush administration's claimed authority to conduct warrantless domestic surveillance in violation of the law. But those very laws were put in place to protect people like Malkin from exactly the kind of abuse she now fears. Luckily for Malkin, it's very unlikely that the Obama administration would ever claim the authority to violate those laws, which means that if DHS wants to listen to her inane and delusional conversations, it'll have to get a warrant.

The top House Democrat overseeing the Department of Homeland Security is demanding that officials there explain how and why they wrote and released a controversial report identifying veterans as potential terrorist threats.
Rep. Bennie G. Thompson of Mississippi, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, said in a letter to DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano that he was "dumbfounded" such a report would be issued.
"This report appears to raise significant issues involving the privacy and civil liberties of many Americans -- including war veterans," Mr. Thompson said in the letter sent Tuesday.

"As I am certain you agree, freedom of association and freedom of speech are guaranteed to all Americans -- whether a person's beliefs, whatever their political orientation, are 'extremist' or not," Mr. Thompson said.
The report "blurred the line," and Mr. Thompson said he is "disappointed and surprised that the department would allow this report to be disseminated" to law enforcement officials nationwide.
Also Wednesday, Ms. Napolitano issued a statement standing by the report, which she personally had reviewed before it was issued. She insisted that DHS never would investigate based on political ideology and agreed to meet the head of the American Legion, who already had expressed anger over the report.
The Washington Times reported Tuesday that the department's Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) released a report titled Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment on April 7. It identified as potential terrorist threats people who collect guns, veterans, supporters of border control, and pro-life advocates.
"I am particularly struck by the report's conclusion which states that I&A 'will be working with its state and local partners over the next several months to ascertain with greater regional specificity the rise in rightwing extremist activity in the United States with a particular emphasis on the political, economic, and social factors that drive rightwing extremist radicalization,'" Mr. Thompson said, demanding to know what types of activities DHS had planned for "the next several months."
WASHINGTON—More than a week after President Barack Obama's cold-blooded killing of a local couple, members of the American news media admitted Tuesday that they were still trying to find the best angle for covering the gruesome crime.
"I know there's a story in there somewhere," said Newsweek editor Jon Meacham, referring to Obama's home invasion and execution-style slaying of Jeff and Sue Finowicz on Apr. 8. "Right now though, it's probably best to just sit back and wait for more information to come in. After all, the only thing we know for sure is that our president senselessly murdered two unsuspecting Americans without emotion or hesitation."
Added Meacham, "It's not so cut and dried."
Since the killings took place, reporters across the country have struggled to come up with an appropriate take on the ruthless crime, with some wondering whether it warrants front-page coverage, and others questioning its relevance in a fast-changing media landscape.
"What exactly is the news hook here?" asked Rick Kaplan, executive producer of the CBS Evening News. "Is this an upbeat human-interest story about a 'day in the life' of a bloodthirsty president who likes to kill people? Or is it more of an examination of how Obama's unusual upbringing in Hawaii helped to shape the way he would one day viciously butcher two helpless citizens in their own home?"
"Or maybe the story is just that murder is cool now," Kaplan continued. "I don't know. There are a million different angles on this one."
So far, the president's double-homicide has not been covered by any major news outlets. The only two mentions of the heinous tragedy have been a 100-word blurb on the Associated Press wire and an obituary on page E7 of this week's edition of the Lake County Examiner.
While Obama has expressed no remorse for the grisly murders—point-blank shootings with an unregistered .38-caliber revolver—many journalists said it would be irresponsible for the press to sensationalize the story.
"There's been some debate around the office about whether we should report on this at all," Washington Post senior reporter Bill Tracy said while on assignment at a local dog show. "It's enough of a tragedy without the press jumping in and pointing fingers or, worse, exploiting the violence. Plus, we need to be sensitive to the victims' families at this time. Their loved ones were brutally, brutally murdered, after all."
Nevertheless, a small contingent of independent journalists has begun to express its disapproval and growing shock over the president's actions.
"I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but we are in the midst of an economic crisis here," political pundit Marcus Reid said. "Why was our president ritualistically dismembering the corpses of his prey when he should have been working on a new tax proposal for small businesses? I, for one, am outraged."
The New York Times newsroom is reportedly still undecided on whether or not to print a recent letter received from Obama, in which the president threatens to kill another helpless citizen every Tuesday and "fill [his] heavenly palace with slaves for the afterlife" unless the police "stop the darkness from screaming."
"President Obama's letter presents us with a classic journalistic quandary," executive editor Bill Keller said. "If we print it, then we're giving him control over the kinds of stories we choose to run. It would be an acknowledgment that we somehow give the nation's commander in chief special treatment."
Added Keller, "And that's just not how the press in this country works.
