What an idiot.

Democratic Reverend: White Male Christians, Not Muslims, Should Apologize For Terrorism

"It is clearly white male Christians that are doing this kind of violence.”

The Daily Caller reports that a religious leader said yesterday at the Democratic National Convention that white Christian males like himself should be the ones apologizing for terrorism, not his "Muslim friends."

Speaking on a four-person panel to an audience of more than one hundred people, Rev. Ron Stief, the executive director of the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, said “I’m tired of my Muslim friends having to be the ones having to stand up and say,‘Hey we are not terrorists. It doesn’t have anything to do with our religion.'”

Well, the rest of us are tired of self-loathing non-Muslims insisting, in contradiction to the violent jihadists themselves, that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam.

“If anybody should be saying that, that should be me, a white Christian man,” Stief added, ludicrously. In response to a Daily Caller request to explain himself, Stief replied,

“If you look at the hate crimes that are being committed in this country and all the violence that is being done against Muslim people, Sikhs, folks of south Asian descent it is clearly white male Christians that are doing this kind of violence."

He didn't provide any examples of "all the violence" he claims is being committed in this country against Muslims, Sikhs, and South Asians. Nor did he bother to explain why, if terrorism has nothing to do with Islam, the Muslims increasingly committing massacres in the United States, Europe and around the world proudly insist that it does, and can cite chapter and verse of the Quran as justification for their mayhem.

“If anybody needs to be apologizing for violence in this country it does need to be American white Christians,” he added.

No, if anybody needs to be apologizing for terroristic violence in this country and elsewhere it's those who claim allegiance to ISIS and shout "Allahu akbar" just prior to going on shooting sprees, ramming trucks into crowds, slitting the throats of Catholic priests at the altar, torturing and mutilating captives, setting off suicide bombs, hacking train passengers with axes, driving cars into pedestrians on sidewalks, and on and on. Christians and other innocents are the victims, not the perpetrators, of such incomprehensible evil, and owe no one an apology.

Referring to slavery and lynching in America's past, “all places where torturing was a key component of life for whites against African Americans,” Stief said, “If you go back in history you can double down on my claims ten times over.” Stief didn't explain what this has to do with Islamic terrorism or with violence against Muslims, Sikhs, and South Asians.

Of course, one doesn't have to go back into the past to find that slavery, lynching, and terrorism are still alive in well in many Muslim countries, but nowhere in Christian territories. But if Stief wants to go back in history, he will find 1400 years of examples of terrorism carried out in the name of Islam which, unlike the extremely rare modern instances of terrorism committed by American white male Christians, continues today

Regardless of what this priest claims, no apology from any Christian will alter the garbage written in Quran - period.

There are too many "reverends" who play politics rather than preach the gospel.

I have always disliked the reverend title.

M85, here the thing... pretty much all "reverends" are tied to a church which lays down the things they may say. And a great many of these churches are tied to governments or other organisations who in turn also limit what may be said.

In some cases, "reverends" are in effect paid and employed by the state, such as Catholic priests and Lutheran ministers in Germany, for example. In other countries they are watched and arrested if they step out of line.

In the catholic and orthodox churches, a new priest is appointed by the local bishop to whom he swears obedience. He is reminded of this promise each time he acts officially by wearing a kind of ribbon round his neck, called the "stole", a symbolic tie to the bishop. In turn the bishop wears the same item in a different way to show his tie to the Vatican. An archbishop or Cardinal wears an even more powerful reminder during mass: a ribbon called the "pallium" round his neck, modelled on the collar of a slave.

In many countries a new bishop is only chosen with consent of the government, which can veto a specific candidate. So the separation of church and state in many places is only partial.

This explains, for example, why on the whole the "Church of England" is a supported of the multi-cultural dream/nightmare.

It also explains the Pope's seemingly naive line on Islam. He faces a stark choice: If he is critical of Islam then he creates a conflict of interest in all of his clergy: they have to obey the Pope but also the local government. So which message are they to preach? Either way they would be at fault. So the Pope parrots the official line about the lone wolf and so on. I dare say he knows better, but he simply cannot afford to do anything else, he believes. Long gone are the days were the church was the conscience of governments. Today the Church is some ways an organ for government propaganda.

I wish we would get our freedom back to speak our minds.

Thanks Manfred, that is a very good and detailed breakdown of the ties between church and government. Regarding the Catholic church, I was not aware that some countries could veto candidates for bishop.

I do see why the Pope is forced to take the ultimate PC line. If only we could read his mind regarding what he really thinks regarding Islam.

I do agree, mixing church and state is very bad and ugly thing.

So is the church also responsible for every bad thing done by the government when it acted as the conscience of the government?
If special status could be granted to many states in India based on backwardness, then it can also be granted to remnant A. P which was deliberately rendered backward due to malicious policy of divide and rule. After division, percapita income of Telangana is Rs 20,000 /-more than that of remnant A.P.
