who the hell can I vote for?

Post by manfred »

We have a local election next month... I normally take all elections very seriously and always vote, but this time I am seriously stuck as to who to vote for...
There is an election for mayor, and the candidates have all made statements in a nice glossy booklet sent to each person who can vote, at great expense, and reading it totally left me lost....

We have:
the liberal: a Dianne Abbot look alike, who wants to declare Hackney a "brexit free zone"...
the labour candidate: I won't vote for an anti-Semitic party, ever. And he wants to import migrants from France....
the Conservative: a local mullah ... he suggests some sensible policies, but if neighbouring Tower Hamlets is anything to go by, he cannot be trusted, as to many Muslims from the Indian subcontinent nepotism and corruptions are quite normal. Most of these guys promise the sky to get elected, and give jobs and contracts to all their family.
the independent: he wants all white folks to apologise "for the slave trade". I never traded in any slaves, though... And he never was a slave, either. And why does he have no problem with Muslim slave trade?
the woman's equality party: should be "we hate men" party... seriously nutty...
the green party: everybody should plant or pay for the planting of one tree a year. That is it.

So who the hell should I vote for?

Vaguely remember having seen somewhere that the French employers set aside resumes immediately after spotting name Muhammad. Also remember people of this very forum remark that French resort to nepotism with regards to jobs and the French muslims are bitter about it. Of course this is once again a tu quo que.
palli or halli in Dravidian languages means a village just like gaav in Aryan languages means a village.palli or halli in Aryan Mauryan Imperial era around 200 B.C designates a tribal hamlet. So many of those in South India are indeed descendants of tribals and are still keeping up that heritage.

Your problem is confounded by the fact that there seems to be little concern about local matters. A pretty standard state of affairs in the UK although there is a sprinkling of independent candidates across the country - often single-issue advocates though. The matter gets even worse with the (non-ceremonial) mayors that the government seems to be intent on forcing on people outside London, even though it's a Labour party idea. These people will mostly be party hacks given enormous powers to toe their parties' lines.
Even worse, of course, is that there's no party worth voting for in national politics - only the least worst option.

Hello manfred

If I was forced to vote I would, purely on the limited info given, vote for the Green Party. I like trees, especially oak trees.

Is this lovely lady available for the job?

There are indeed many, many examples of perfect Muslim places in the world...Like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Bangaldesh, Iran, Iraq. So she could be right !!! Let's learn from them.

There's a problem in the UK Garudaman, in that small parties have little chance of making an impact because of the "first past the post" voting system. So the Green Party has only 1 MP at the moment despite getting 1.6% of the total vote, which should have given them 10 MPs. UKIP did even worse, getting no MPs despite a similar share of the vote.

The Green Party itself is problematical - it says the UK is using too many resources yet favours a "liberal" immigration policy with people migrating where they choose. It's worried abour world population but says people should have as many childen as they please. It lists causes of overpopulation but somehow manages not to mention religion. Its population policy seems to have been unchanged for 15 years, too.
