O.K I will tell you about the person who is one of my grandfather's little brothers, say person A.He was known to frequent prostitutes and waste a lot of decent income he earned on them along with consuming costly liquor. My mother told me that she saw the handwriting of the son of the above person and it simply was remarkable and that he could have been educated better. However due to Mr.A 's obsession and wastage on prostitutes,he turned into a rickshaw puller.

His daughter was married off to a lorry driver and lorry drivers are known to resort to go to prostitutes a lot. That is because he did not want to spend much on her marriage.

When I asked my father as to why he did not take up the education of his son,his reply was that he already had spent a fortune on the marriages of his two little sisters and two little brothers and hence was in position to care for others. Finally Mr.A's wife was so fed up with her husband that she doused herself with kerosene and set about to grab and hug him so tightly that he would die along with her. However that smart fellow understood what was about to happen to him and cleverly ran away. She died of severe burns.

Now years later after he became totally bankrupt , when Mr.A came to our house,my mother did not even let him in and sent him straightaway to my father's office. So just because Hindus of those Pauranic times liked prostitution or because Hindus of the Vedic age sacrificed both animals and humans does not make all of them inclined to those things as of today.

What a sad story.

I am not sure that the sad life of this man really has much to do with religion though. He sounds an irresponsible man who perhaps should not have married in the first place, but that is easy to say with hindsight. I dare say his son, the rickshaw puller, is not going to cry much at his father's funeral, but he misses his mother very much.

You find people like this man all over the world, sadly, and the problem with him was that he lost his way in life. He sounds almost like a alcoholic or a drug addict, someone who is willing to do just about anything to get his next "fix", and his preferred "fix" happens to be a prostitute.

If he had lived in the US or the UK, the chances are he would have ended up getting treated for a "sex addiction", and the worst of that tragedy could have been avoided.

Somehow your conclusion seems little to do with the story though....

I cannot see any connection at all.

This poor guy needs some serious help. The first port of call should be a doctor to give him something (for a temporary period) to control his sex drive. Then he need psychological counselling. He would also need a social worker taking care of his debts and finances, and get him into a healthy daily routine.

That wife of Mr.A who set herself afire in order to simultaneously kill herself along with her husband gifted a little gold ring with pink stone to me when I was between my 1st and 5th standards. When I was quarantined in my house for small pox,my favourite past time was looking at that adorable ring of ambience. It is sad that she met with such a miserable death.

All I wanted to say is that Hindus as of today do not have a high esteem either for prostitutes or for those who frequent prostitutes. That might be the case why those who brought up Urvasi for discussion were roughed up.
