According to one story in the Srimad Bhagavatham, people who take more pleasures in family members are akin to the family of birds that perishes one after another trying to rescue one another in the net of a hunter. Perhaps the author wants to mention that people should live for greater good such as say may be for the sake of religion. Now members of same family killed one another for the sake of religious beliefs in the Thirty Years War in Germany. Now that is madness. Now as and when such ideas get echoed, your opponents will definitely not spare you for exhorting people on similar lines.

Being chaplains of Hindus who mentor soldiers to give them mental strength,I do not think Brahmins should consider themselves above the receiving edge of atrocities as and when full blown hostilities flare up.
