Swedish mother reports school to police after a teacher told her daughter to write “I am a Muslim”
In the Söderfors school, in the town of Tierp, in the north of Stockholm, Anamaria von Roteliuc was shocked when her nine-year-old daughter came home from school to tell her that her teacher had tried to force her and her classmates to say that they were Muslim.
“My daughter came home and was completely upset,” Anamaria says.
“She said, Mom, we had Islam yesterday and they forced us to say that we are Muslims. She told me that during the lesson, she jumped out of the classroom and cried in the toilet and prayed to God. She has been feeling bad since it happened. I myself am so angry so I am seething. How can you do this? We are Christians and my children should not be forced to become Islamized in school. But the teacher said they have to complete the task. That they otherwise get placed in time-out.”
Anamaria von Roteliuc first did not believe her ears. But on closer inspection, it turned out that all the daughter told her was true, and was also confirmed by other children in the class, Katerina Magasin reports.
During a course on world religions, the teacher told the nine-year-old she had to write: “I am a Muslim”, which Anamaria’s daughter refused despite the pressure and threat of time-out by the teacher Evelina Wickman.
“My girl is a Christian and refused to write I BELIEVE ALLAH. But she had to write that she belonged to Islam”, Anamaria says. As a result of the incident, Anamaria has reported the school to the police.
The children in Evelina Wickman’s class were forced to write the following:
“I belong to Islam. I pray in a mosque. I celebrate Ramadan. I read the Quran. The Quran is divided into a book. Ramadan is 30 days. The Quran has 114 pages.”
Journalist Katerina Janouch, who brought up the incident to media, asked Anamaria if the teacher is Muslim but Anamaria says that is not the case. Neither is the student assistant, who actively participated in the indoctrination of the children.
“What they did was a spiritual rape. An abuse to my child”, Anamaria says.
Anamaria has, in order to secure evidence of the abuses, recorded video clips in which the school children describe what they were forced to do during World Religions class.
Anamaria also immediately contacted the teacher in question, Evelina Wickman, and also the principal Peter Söderberg at the Söderfors school to see how they could force a class of nine-year-olds to say that they were Muslims. Evelina Wickman has responded, saying: “We work with world religions. The principal will meet you tomorrow to talk more about this.”
It is clear from the school’s perspective that they are not pleased with the criticism they have received. Anamaria was questioned when she picked up her daughter’s writing book – where the text on Islam is – at school, and one teacher aggressively asked what she was doing in the schoolyard, despite the fact that she has a few children attending the same school.
Anamaria has reported the school to the police. Per Swedish education laws, teachers can teach about the world’s religions, but they are certainly permitted to command students to write that they belong to any of them.
One of the local politicians from the nationalist Sweden Democrats in Tierp says that he will bring up this bizarre incident in the town hall, and then tell how it went.
