Denmark to set up new agency tasked with repatriating illegal migrants

The Danish government is in the process of creating a new authority whose only task will be to repatriate illegal migrants.

To fend off the increasingly popular nationalist parties in the country, the Social Democrats – the party with the most seats in Denmark’s parliament – have prioritized the expulsion of illegal migrants.

Operating under the Ministry of Immigration and Integration, the “home travel agency”, will begin its operations on August 1st, and will be in charge of sending foreigners without legal residence in Denmark back to their homelands.

“It is important for the government that illegal immigrants travel home. We have had the Danish immigration service for many years. It provides, among other things, residence permits for refugees and family reunions. Now we set up the Home Travel Agency to ensure that people also return home when they are not allowed to be inDenmark,” Denmark’s Foreign and Integration Minister Mattias Tesfaye said.

“An authority that only works with home trips. I think it makes sense,” Tesfaye adds.

Danish church defaced with Arabic graffiti saying “We conquer Denmark”
According to Copenhagen police, the revolting act of vandalism was carried out at approximately 3:30 am on Sunday, April 12, 2020 by an unknown individual who is said to have been wearing dark clothing at the time of the crime.

Unfortunately, the perpetrator cannot be described in further detail.

“We have surveillance pictures in the case, but based on them the gender of the perpetrator cannot even be determined, and therefore it does not make sense to publish the pictures. But the case is still at an early stage and we hope that through this investigation as well as interrogations and other investigations we can arrest the perpetrator,” said Deputy Police Inspector Peter Malmose.

Sadly, this is not the first instance of this church in Ishøj being vandalized. In 2015, vandals smashed eight large windows with stones.

Attacks against churches and symbols against Christianity have become all-too-common in multicultural Western Europe.

Just weeks ago, a man believed to be an immigrant from the Middle East or North Africa was charged with setting fire to Dombås Church and Sel Church in Norway. As Voice of Europe reported, the acts of arson were reportedly vengeance attacks for copies of the Quran being burnt at a demonstration by Stop Islamisation of Norway in Agder late last year.

Last year, France witnessed a torrent of attacks on its historic Catholic churches. Numerous churches were set alight, crosses were torn down, statues were smashed, and tabernacles were knocked down, igniting fears of widespread anti-Christian sentiment across the country.

Danish police attacked with stones in notorious migrant ghetto

Earlier this week, Danish police were attacked by masked ‘youths’ in the Vollsmose district in Odense, Denmark’s third largest city.

Shortly after 11 pm on Monday, police received a report of a fire in the Bøgeparken, a neighborhood in Vollsmose. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers were greeted by a gang of so-called ‘youths’ who hurled stones at them, Danish tabloid Den Korte Avis reports.

Reinforcements were subsequently called in and police managed to arrest two of the young hooligan men, one aged 23 and the other 24. Shortly after their arrests, however, both men are said to have been released.

The police are now investigating the incident further. They will now take extra steps to ensure the security of the troubled neighborhood.

Vollsmose is one of Denmark’s worst immigrant ghettos and is often referred to as a “no-go zone”. The neighborhood isn’t dissimilar to certain areas of Malmö, Sweden. Fires, turmoil and attacks on police who come to the area are quite common. According to a report from the Danish news outlet BT, the Vollsmose district has become someone akin to “a war zone” like that which is seen in the “Israeli-occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip”.

Migrant tells Danish man: “You Danes are animals, you will be exterminated”

Image

Rasmus Paludan, a Danish anti-Islam politician who requires police protection everywhere he goes, recently held a demonstration with members of his party Stram Kurs (Hard Line) at a school in Århus – Denmark’s second largest city.

During the demonstration, party members recorded video of the kind of reception they received from the locals. One video that’s been uploaded to Rasmus Paludan’s YouTube channel shows a bearded, aggressive migrant yelling at a young Danish man. Although it’s difficult to make out all the words, Kim Møller, an author at the political blog Uriasposten, has transcribed what can be heard on the video.
The migrant says:

“We have more children. You get one or two. In ten or fifteen years there will be more Muslims than Danes in this country. … The Danes are five million, You are almost extinct man. … You **** with animals, that’s why you don’t get children…You Danes are being exterminated. You’re like animals… I will never be Danish, I want my mentality and my tradition, but I will stick my Danish passport and the Danish People’s Party in my ass, I will burn my Danish passport… We will not integrate, we will continue to **** your society… Suck a cock!”

Recently, Muslim migrants in Denmark have come out of the woodwork to brazenly reveal their abject disdain for the Danish people, their culture, and their religion.

About two weeks ago on Easter Sunday, the holiest day for Christians around the world, a Danish church was defaced with Arabic graffiti which read: “We conquer Denmark. There is no God but Allah,” Voice of Europe reported.

Denmark: 3 out of 4 Muslim migrants want to ban criticism of Islam

A report on freedom of speech that was recently published by Denmark’s Ministry of Justice reveals that nearly eight out of ten Muslims who live in the country want to see all criticism of Islam legally banned.

The report, which is entitled ‘Freedom of Speech in Denmark‘, was released last month. It surveyed attitudes towards freedom of speech held by all Danish citizens. Among the study’s findings was that 76% of migrants who had come from Muslim countries, or whose parents had come from Muslim countries, want to put an end to any criticism of the religion, as reported by Samhällsnytt.

Among the same group, the study found that only 59% would like to see a law prohibiting the introduction of Sharia law in Denmark.

Out of the total population of Denmark, including migrants from Muslim countries, the study showed that only 18% would like to see criticism of Islam banned.

These alarming results are similar to those obtained by Dutch researcher Ruud Koopmans, who has been studying Muslim migrants in Europe for more than 20 years. According to a report released last year, Koopmans’ research has shown that two-thirds of Muslim migrants living in Europe believe that Sharia law is more important than the law of the countries in which they live. His conclusion is that it is impossible to integrate Muslims into Western societies.

Recent incidents do not suggest a happy future for relations between Muslims and native Danes in Denmark. Last month, a migrant was filmed telling Danish politician Rasmus Paludan that Danes are “animals” who will eventually be “exterminated” by Muslims, as previously reported by Voice of Europe. And on Thursday, Danish police arrested a man in Copenhagen who is suspected of planning to carry out a jihadi terrorist attack in the country.

Denmark: Migrant ‘youths’ arrested for filming gang rape of a 15-year-old girl

Four ‘youths’ who are charged with gang raping a 15-year-old girl and filming it near a school in Haslev, Denmark appeared in court over the weekend.

The four perpetrators – a 19-years-old, two 18-year-olds, and a 17-year-old – were arrested by police shortly after the rape took place on the night of May 2nd. On Sunday, the four appeared at a court hearing in Næstved. According to a report from the Danish newspaper Den Korte Avis, three of the four perpetrators had foreign backgrounds, while the fourth – the youth who’s believed to have film the rape occur – appeared to be Danish.

According to the indictment, the suspects are charged with “having united in agreement and prior agreement or mutual understanding of having intercourse with the girl against her will”. However, the three suspects who are migrants contend that the girl had consented to having sex with them.

It has also come to light that one of the alleged rapists, despite his young age, already has had numerous run-ins with police and Denmark’s criminal justice system. He has convictions for violence, robbery, extortion and threats against witness, TV 2 Øst writes.

As of this report, the residence status of the three migrant suspects is not known. Before the judge adjourned the court until the next hearing, he jailed the four suspects for four weeks

Danish activists protest against obnoxiously loud call to prayer

Image

Danish activists from the pan-European group Generation Identity have hung a massive banner which read “Stop Prayer Calls” to protest a mosque’s obnoxiously loud call to prayer.

Shortly after word of the protest reached ears inside the mosque, Muslims took to the streets in Gallerup – a multicultural neighborhood in Aarhus – to demonstrate the might of Islam in Denmark. Several videos have emerged of aggressive Muslims driving cars through the streets as they honk their horns, disobey traffic rules, play loud music, and hang outside of windows and sunroofs, local news site Lokalavisen reports.
The Mosque of Peace, as it is unironically called, is the second largest mosque in Aarhus, and was one of the few mosques in Denmark that refused to distance itself from the Islamic State. Gallerup, which is a hotbed for young Islamic extremists, in 2015 saw young Muslims driving around in cars while waving black ISIS flags and fake AK-47s, according to report from the Danish newspaper Berlingske.

This time, however, the young Muslims – to their credit – were not waving ISIS flags as they drove around Gallerup blaring their horns.

While Islamic calls to prayer aren’t explicitly prohibited by law in Denmark, there’s undoubtedly a strong aversion to them among the Danish people. And, Danes are certainly not alone in their opposition to the offensively loud calls to prayer. The same aversion exists and is widespread in the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, France, and other European countries.

Denmark: Minister who rescued migrant child brides may face criminal charges for it

Denmark: Minister who rescued migrant child brides may face criminal charges for it
Inger Støjberg, Denmark’s former Minister for Immigration, Integration, and Housing, is now possibly facing criminal charges for having rescued migrant child brides from their older husbands when they came to the country.

Støjberg served as Immigration Minister from 2015 until 2019, during the peak of the so-called “migrant crisis.” During that time she was noted for her tough stance on illegal migration and her demand that migrants respect Danish cultural values, which earned her the hatred of the Danish Left.

One of Støjberg’s achievements was in rescuing Muslim child brides. During 2015 and 2016 in particular, a large number of male migrants came from Muslim countries along with their very young wives. Støjberg has provided examples of cases that moved her to take action against it, such as a couple that arrived from Iraq in which the husband was 29 and the wife 17. When they got to Denmark, the woman was already pregnant with her third child; she had previously given birth to two children when she was only 12 and 13.

Other examples include a Syrian couple where the husband was 50 and the girl only 16, and a “stateless” couple in which the husband was 27 and the girl was only 16, having become pregnant the first time when she was only 13.

Calling the practice of marrying child brides — which is commonplace throughout the Islamic world — “medieval and cruel,” Støjberg did everything in her legal power to separate such couples. Thus, Støjberg enacted a measure in 2016 in which the authorities were compelled to separate married couples in cases where the woman was under the age of 18.

“We must not turn a blind eye!” Støjberg said in a social media post, as reported by Norway’s Human Rights Service. “These girls are entitled to their own lives and need help. Anything else would have been completely obscene!”

In Sweden, by contrast, the migrant agencies were tolerant of such couples, and even went so far as to publish a booklet of information for “adults who are married to a child” — although it did refer to such marriages as “unfortunate,” since Swedish law prohibits having sex with a girl who is under the age of 15.

But now, liberal parties in Denmark are threatening to prosecute her for violating a technicality of international law. Under the conventions concerning children, the separation of couples can only be carried out on a case-by-case basis. Støjberg, however, stated in a press release in 2016 that not every case would be dealt with individually — thus offering an opening to the Left to trap her. She is now being investigated.

In her defense, Støjberg told the commission of inquiry on Sunday that the press release had been a political message and not a policy statement. “When you issue a press release, you do not talk about the exceptions,” she said. “You communicate the main points.” She insists that her actual instructions specified that individual assessments should be made in each case.

The investigation is still ongoing. When it is complete, the Danish Parliament will make a decision as to whether Støjberg shall be prosecuted or not.

The issue of child brides is not limited to Denmark but is endemic throughout the migrant communities of Western Europe — especially since Muslims see it as part of their culture.

Denmark says Syrian refugees must return home when safe

The Danish government will start to re-evaluate residence permits given to asylum seekers from Syria as they deem it is now safe for some of them to return to their home country.

In a press release, the Danish government says that the situation in Damascus is now safe enough for people to return.

The Immigration and Integration Minister Mattias Tesfaye has decided that they will review residence permits and consider if there is reason to revoke them.

“Last year almost 100 000 refugees returned home to Syria from nearby areas. Their countrymen that have received protection in Europe, shall also of course return home, when the situation in Syria allows it.
  • The last weeks the independent Refugee Board has decided that five people from the Damascus province do not any longer have the right to temporary protection, because the situation in the area has improved. Therefore I have now decided that we shall quickly review the cases with refugees from Damascus to find out who no longer has the need for protection in Denmark. We are ready with quite a large sack of travel money for those that shall return and rebuild their existence in Syria.” said Mattias Tesfaye.
Around 5 000 people from Syria have refugee status in Denmark in the period from 2015 to 2019.

People who get their residence permit revoked in Denmark will have the right to seek monetary support to help them travel home and establish themselves in their country.

Denmark has taken a tougher stance on migration than for example neighboring country Sweden.

The headline in Danish moron-media says: ‘SHOCKING NUMBERS’

A new statistic has surfaced showing that more than 2/3 of inmates in Copenhagen prisons have immigrant background.

Shocking to whom?

It can only be shocking to moron-media and politicians – the rest of us know what is going on and wonder why politicians keep letting these criminals in and why politicians keep insisting to hand them a citizenship, so they can’t be deported after served time or even better, before they serve time in jail.

The exact number is 67,8% of inmates with immigrant background in Copenhagen prisons. To put the number into an even better context only 13,3% of the 6 mill. population have immigrant background, according to Danmarks Statistik (Danish State Statistics).

There is of course also the possibility that Danish Statistics, ie. the State, is lying about the numbers of immigrants in Denmark. If their numbers are correct we are just short of 800.000 immigrants in Denmark, while critics of the globalist immigrant agenda say it is way higher.

However – the current Minister of Justice, social democrat Nick Hækkerup calls it ‘a frightening development’ and promises to continue to crack down hard on immigrant crime and gang-related crimes and says that the government is ready to help the police in any possible way in their continuous fight against immigrant criminals.

Former Minister of Justice conservative Søren Pape, has another take on the story and claims that the legislation from when he was in office is why so many criminal immigrants are now behind bars, which makes sense since the current communist backed socialist government spend half their time lying about the corona-virus and the other time imposing draconian laws on the Danes.

Danish PM vows to stop 'Non-Western' young men who harass Danish women and participate in crime
"It has been going on for too many years," said PM Frederiksen while addressing the issues with young men of non-Western origin and the problem with crime

In a speech at the opening of the new year in the Danish Parliament, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen took a firm stance against young men of a non-Western origin who create insecurity in the country.

Girls and women are increasingly harassed just because they are Danish, she stated in her speech to the country.

"You are not allowed to take our freedom," Frederiksen said when addressing the growing insecurity in society caused by migrants.

"How we manage our lives is our responsibility," she continued, adding that the Danes have to face the facts.

"Every fifth young man with a non-Western background born in 1997 had broken the law before turning 21. It's not everyone. But there are too many young men who take the freedom of others, steal children's futures, intimidate prison guards - and leave behind a long trail of insecurity," said the Danish prime minister.

Frederiksen pointed out that this is not something new, and that is the problem.

"It has been going on for too many years. Girls who are called derogatory names because they are Danish. Or girls who are subjected to social control because they have become too Danish. A sausage cart in Brønshøj that is attacked with firecrackers because it sells pork," she gave a couple of examples.

Harsher penalties for offenders
Frederiksen said that such behavior is not acceptable and that it must have consequences.

"In far too many places, insecurity has been allowed to take root. Should we accept that there are places in Denmark where quite ordinary people should be afraid to be? Where residents are insecure about coming home late from work? Or worried about sending their kids outside to play?" she said, adding that the police need to crack down "troubled areas" of Denmark.

Currently, the police can ban individuals from staying in certain places, but Frederiksen believes that this is not enough and that in the future, police will be able to ban people from certain areas at certain times.

"It can be a parking lot in a residential area or at a train station, where these boys and young men gather and create insecurity. By doing this, we would send a message, saying, 'You cannot be here. No one should be afraid to walk the streets of Denmark. You are not allowed to take our freedom'," said Frederiksen.

At first, anyone who violates the ban should be fined SEK 10,000 (€966). If it happens again, the person could go to prison for up to 30 days.

The police must also be able to seize expensive jackets, watches, and mobile phones from those who break the law and have debts to the public sector, for example, for a previous crime.

"This way, we would give the police more power. At the same time, we would send the troublemakers and their parents a message that cannot be misunderstood," said the Danish prime minister.

Frederiksen also suggested that those convicted of violent crimes committed in bars, clubs and other forms of nightlife should also be banned from Danish nightlife for up to two years.

Frederiksen said that Denmark will maintain its own strict immigration policy, but said that Europe's has failed.

"The government will continue the strict immigration policy, but we must do more than that. We have a European asylum system that has really collapsed," she said. She proposed processing asylum requests in countries outside of Europe.

Harsher stance against non-Western migration in Denmark
Frederiksen's strong words echo former Immigration Minister Inger Støjberg, who recently wrote in a column for Danish media outlet BT that non-Western immigration has incredibly harmed Denmark.

"One might as well be honest and put it bluntly: Non-Western, and thus primarily Muslim immigration, has harmed Denmark far more than it has benefited," she wrote in BT.

"There is a strong over-representation of criminals from non-Western countries, as the crime statistics clearly indicate," Støjberg writes. "Immigrants and descendants from non-western countries are overall overrepresented by 255 percent in relation to their actual share of the population in Denmark."

Statistics from previous years also appear to support claims that non-Western people are driving crime in Denmark. For example, in 2012, the Danish national police reported that conviction rates per 1,000 residents in Denmark amounted to 12.9 for Danish citizens, 114.4 for Somali citizens and 54.3 for citizens coming from other countries.

Denmark is not the only Scandinavian country facing the consequences of mass migration. In Sweden, the country has decided to not accept refugees from the burned out Moria Camp in Greece due to the problems the country is facing in terms of rising crime and integration failures.

Sweden's prime minister, Stefan Löfven, known for his pro-refugee stance in the past, has since acknowledged there are real problems in Sweden.

]Denmark: Migrants offered cash to return home or be placed in a deportation facility

After Syria's Damascus was ruled as safe to return to, Denmark's Social democrats are fulfilling their campaign promises and moving to return asylum seekers home

Since assuming high office in 2019, Denmark’s ruling center-left Social Democratic Party has continued to honor its promises to repatriate asylum seekers and to limit — or perhaps even stop all together — the number of new migrants coming into the country.

As the first European country in the European Union to revoke the residency permits of Syrian asylum seekers whose homes have been deemed safe to return to – in the case Damascus – Denmark and its ruling party are intensely out of step with their northwestern European counterparts.

Denmark’s ruling center-left Social Democratic Party — with slightly over one-third of the country’s support, and its closest competitor having just under 12 percent of the vote — has carried out an action which no other center-left party has done in Europe, which is to enact a strict immigration policies fully in-line with the country's predominant right-wing party, which is the Danish People’s Party in the case of Denmark. Given the large number of unintegrated and chronically unemployed asylum seekers who require state welfare benefits for their survival, both the Social Democratic Party and the Danish People's Party have argued in the past that these migrants place an undue burden on the country’s welfare state and actually poses a grave threat to its survival.

To address the issue, Denmark’s ruling party has, among other things, put pressure on asylum seekers to return to their homelands, which have been deemed safe to live in. The Social Democrats have also enacted a policy which essentially gives asylum seekers whose residence permits have been rescinded the following two choices: 1) voluntarily repatriate themselves and receive a 30,000 euro incentive, or 2) live at a facility which is housing asylum seekers.

So far, about 130 Syrians have taken the government up on their offer to self-repatriate with cash assistance from the government. Each year, between 300 and 500 foreigners make use of the Danish repatriation systems which offers substantial sums of money to help them make their journey home.

“But many more foreigners must be sent on the scheme,” the Danish Minister for Immigration and Integration, Mattias Tesfaye, says.

“My dream is that we go from these 400 to 500 a year to over 1,000 who use the system,” adds Tesfaye.

Nearly 30,000 Syrians have arrived in Denmark since the outbreak of the Syrian conflict.

Earlier this month, the Danish Minister for Immigration and Integration, Mattias Tesfaye reiterated to the public that the government had been “open and honest from the start” regarding the situation with migration.

“We have made it clear to Syrian refugees that their residence permit is temporary,” Tesfaye told the UK’s Daily Telegraph newspaper earlier this month. “It can be withdrawn if protection is no longer needed.”

Denmark will “give people protection for as long as it is needed,” Tesfaye continued, adding “when conditions in the home country improve, a former refugee should return home and reestablish life there.”

Denmark’s Refugee Appeals Board ruled in 2019 that conditions in the Syrian capital of Damascus were no longer so dangerous that they gave legitimate grounds for temporary protection to be given to asylum seekers.

Since assuming office and even before, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Denmark’s youngest-ever head of state, promised to target a policy of accepting "zero" asylum seekers applying for residency in the country.

According to a report from the Ministry for Immigration and Integration (IUM), nearly 9,000 long-term unemployed foreigners will have earnest conversations with municipality officials about their opportunity to repatriate voluntarily with the support of the Danish government.

“We need to be more honest and direct,” Tesfaye argues. “Some immigrants have been on cash benefits for a long time. They have never succeeded in becoming a part of society. Maybe it would be better for everyone if they returned home to their own country.”

“I am therefore pleased that we are now introducing a dedicated return journey conversation, where we can talk about the possibility of traveling home voluntarily with financial support from Danish society.”

The Social Democrat's plan to dramatically reduce the number of asylum seekers they allow into the country as well as the deportation of asylum seekers currently living within its borders is working, so far, without any major issues. In fact, Denmark last year saw the lowest number of asylum seeker since 1998, with a total of 1,547 individuals applying.

Over the last eight years, Denmark has seen a surge in convictions and charges for rape, with migrants making up nearly 25% of those convicted for rape in 2020.

Minister of Justice Nick Hækkerup has called for the deportation of convicted migrant rapists. Apparently at least one Danish politician cares about the innocent victims, in sharp contrast to Boris Johnson over in the UK, where Pakistani Muslim men continue their “grooming gang” (rape gang) activity that has ruined thousands of innocent lives. But the UK government doesn’t want to call it out, for fear of appearing “Islamophobic.”
Denmark: Rape charges more than double since 2012, Muslim migrants top the list

More specifically, in 2020, 987 charges were filed for rape throughout the country, according to a new statement from the Ministry of Justice.

That is more than twice as many charges as eight years ago, in 2012, when 417 charges were filed.

Minister of Justice Nick Hækkerup (S) takes the large increase very seriously.

“I take the numbers very seriously, because rape is a heinous crime, which unfortunately is committed to an excessive extent,” says Nick Hækkerup.

The nationalities of many of the rapists who end up in court and get a verdict are discussed later in the article.

During the same period, the number of convictions has also increased quite markedly. Last year, judgments were handed down in 217 cases, against only 132 judgments in 2012.

22-year-old Emilie Riddersholm from Aarhus is one of the victims. Four years ago, she reported a rape to the police.

“It stays with me, what happened. I do not think about it every day anymore, but it still preoccupies me,” says Emilie Riddersholm, who appeared in the B.T. series #voldtaget.

The perpetrator ended up being convicted at the Court in Aarhus, but he was later acquitted by the Western High Court.

Emilie Riddersholm’s story was one of the reasons why a new law was passed last year in the area of rape, so since January 1 this year, there must be consent between both parties before anyone has sex.

Otherwise, it is a case of rape….

Foreigners convicted of rape in Denmark

Of the 217 convicted of rape last year, 53 have foreign nationality. In other words, they do not have Danish citizenship.

Here is the nationality of the foreigners who were convicted of rape in the year 2020:

Syria (7 judgments)
Turkey and stateless persons (5 judgments)
Algeria, Somalia, Eritrea, Iraq, Lithuania and Greenland (2 judgments)
Afghanistan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Egypt, Bosnia, France, Iran, Jordan, India, Jamaica, Poland, Latvia, Pakistan, Uganda, Lebanon, Nepal, Romania, Portugal, Russia, Tunisia, Ukraine, Sweden and the Faroe Islands (1 judgment)
Source: Ministry of Justice

The latest census for 2020 shows that 53 out of 217 convicted of rape last year had foreign nationality.

That equates to 24 percent, or just under one in four.

Syria is number one on the list of foreign nationalities of people convicted of rape last year in Denmark.

Number two are people from Turkey and stateless people.

“The figures clearly show that we have a problem with an ethnic slant when relatively many foreigners are convicted of rape, just as we have an obvious problem when more than half of the inmates in the country’s closed prisons and detention centers are immigrants, descendants or foreigners,” says Nick Hækkerup.

He calls it a “huge problem” for both the community and society.

“It is first and foremost a huge problem for our community and our society that there are groups that make such a significant impact in terms of committing crime,” the minister said, adding:

“It challenges our cohesion, and therefore it is also the government’s policy that foreigners without Danish citizenship, who are convicted of rape, must be deported, to the extent that there is a basis for it.”…

Verry, very wise decision.
Denmark blocks convicts from obtaining citizenship, tightens other requirements

It will no longer be possible for people with a prison sentence to become Danish citizens

The government has reached an agreement with the left-wing Venstre Party, the Conservative People's Party, and the Liberal Alliance to tighten the requirements to obtain Danish citizenship. In the future, prison convicts will no longer be able to obtain Danish citizenship.

"Among the immigrants, there are some who do well, and then there are some who do poorly. We want to be sure that those who get Danish citizenship have become well-established in Danish society and have embraced Denmark — also the Danish values,“ said Minister of Foreign Affairs and Integration Mattias Tesfaye.

The new agreement means, among other things, that it will no longer be possible for people with a conditional as well as an unconditional prison sentence to become Danish citizens, according to Danish publication DR.

"It should not be the case that as a foreigner you can come to Denmark, commit a serious crime, and then be rewarded with citizenship afterward,“ explained Morten Dahlin, who is the indigenous rights spokesman for the Venstre Party.

"For us, it is important that we send a signal to those who have not yet committed a crime and make it clear that it has quite severe consequences if you commit such a serious crime that you get a conditional or unconditional prison sentence," stated Foreign and Integration Minister Mattias Tesfaye.

In the same way, the agreement also blocks individuals from obtaining citizenship for a period of six years if they have been fined more than DKK 3,000 (€403) for committing social benefits fraud, which is just one of a number of offenses that could potentially affect an immigrant's citizenship application.

The political parties involved in the new law have also agreed that the applicant must be employed for 3.5 of the last four years to apply for the Danish passport.

Questions about Danish values
When applying for Danish citizenship, migrants must pass a citizenship test. In the future, that test must contain five questions about Danish values.

"These must be factual questions. It could be, for example: What was the Muhammad crisis about? It could also be about whether it's okay as a parent to deny your daughter to be in a relationship with someone. Or if you can demand that there be no male lifeguards or swimming instructors present if your daughter is going for a swim. It will be value-laden questions where we ask people to determine whether they have understood what values this society is based on,“ commented Minister of Foreign Affairs and Integration Mattias Tesfaye.

To get Danish citizenship, the person must be able to answer at least four of the five questions correctly. The text of the agreement mentions topics for the value issues directly. For example, it could be about freedom of speech, equality, or the relationship between religion and law.

In addition, applicants must have no public debt and must participate in a constitutional ceremony. During the ceremony, the applicant must shake the hand of a popularly elected politician, such as a councilor or a mayor.

No ceiling on the number of new nationals
The Conservatives would have liked to have seen the government also agree to set a limit on how many people could be granted citizenship each year to persons outside the EU.

"We are sincerely concerned about the large group of refugees who came here in the refugee crisis around 2015, and that at some point they can apply for Danish citizenship. We believe that they should return to countries like Syria and that they should not have a Danish passport,“ said Marcus Knuth from the Conservative Party.

However, the party has agreed that a possible ceiling can be discussed politically if there is a larger increase in the number of people who apply for citizenship.

The requirements to obtain citizenship were most recently tightened in the summer of 2018. Back then, the constitutional ceremonies were agreed and the requirements for self-sufficiency were sharpened.
