And do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, if they desire chastity, to seek [thereby] the temporary interests of worldly life. And if someone should compel them, then indeed, Allah is [to them], after their compulsion, Forgiving and Merciful.

When supposedly a Westerner of emigrated Greek ancestry with the nick Osmanthus asked another supposedly emigrated Greek forummer with the nick hrdgrk as to why a Turkish captured Greek Orthodox Christian woman of the harem must kill herself, hrdgrk perhaps reiterated once again that instead of becoming a Turkish slave, the Greek woman should kill herself. It is also true that there existed medieval Greek women jumped down cliffs and committed suicide rather than fall into the hands of muslim Turks.
Now I did not understand the logic perfectly back then, but after seeing it in the light of what Yohan said I got the point.Yohan who possibly is pastor K.P.Yohanan of the gospel for Asia said that he did not like Urdu, the language of a vast majority of subcontinental muslims as it is a bastard language. Now Urdu literally means ‘camp’ in Turkish and it denotes its place of birth which is where the victorious Turks sired their offspring with captured Hindu women who did not commit either Jauhar or Suttee when granted ‘free will’.

Now yeezevee,a Bengali foummer whom one of old Hindu forummers named Kaisys called a traitor for having converted to Christianity said that if allowed a free rein, the Pakistanis who are Arabian bastardised subcontinentals would bastardise the whole world.

Now while even well before Islamic invasions,Hinduwomen such as Vasavi who refused to submit to the will of their fellow rulers and committed suicide were deified, even after Islam arrived such phenomenon continued in the form of Reddamma of Rayalaseema region in present day Andhra Pradesh.Another Gujarati woman was also deified for committing suicide instead of falling into the hands of rival Hindu king. Now Madhu Kishwar a supposed Hindutva woman in India supposedly defended the rights of people who worship Suttee stones erected in remembrance of those who committed suicides.I also remember a friend from Telangana say about how his male ancestors got killed while trying to defend the chastity of their women. Also in coastal Andhra it is the custom to get most people married during nights just like in case of North India in order to avoid the supposed habit of bride catching on horsebacks practiced in medieval periods.

A left-over from this period is the North-Indian custom of celebrating weddings at midnight: this was a safety measure against the Islamic sport of bride-catching

However Osmania University ex-Professor/Professor Sri Kondaram of Telangana said once in a newspaper that the culture of Telangana in not a sishta culture or a culture of good people. Now possibly the most famous verse of the most famous Hindu modern religious book Bhagavad Geetha is Krishna saying that to protect the good(sishta rakshana) and to punish the wicked(dushta sikshana) he will take reincarnations in human flesh time and again.

I do know of a famous Telugu historian say that in his childhood, when the husband expired for a woman dear to them and who belonged to the caste of temple dancers,he asked her to remarry which is allowed in her caste ,yet she refused. Now in the osey Ramulamma Telugu film that was a resounding success at the box office, one of the famous dialogues of the heroine in a raped Dalit character was ‘I do not know how many husbands your mother had,but for those of our last caste we have only one husband for life’.So essentially even if this was a punch dialogue that was not really in vogue ,it does show that perhaps such a behavior is indeed one of the characteristics of sishta culture.Perhaps those who do not follow such a line might be considered neutral if not outright dushta as had been exemplified in case of that woman of the caste of temple dancers called Devadasis or slaves of Gods of temples.

So perhaps these right hand possessions are already considered prostitutes by their erstwhile cultures if they refuse to commit suicides.

NS,

a "right hand possession" is in essence a slave, a human being owned by another. Islam provides some guidelines as to how slaves should be treated, but there are no rights for them. A "right hand possession" can also be a sex slave, but not always is.

A prostitute generally is not a sex slave. It is a woman who sells sexual favours to others. A sex slave is not in a position to make any kind of bargain.

The closest thing we have to sex slaves are women who have been trafficked into Europe and spend their lives locked up in a brothel. They would not be what I consider prostitutes. A prostitute made a free choice, these women do not.

But as a "free" woman surely she'd not be allowed to make that kind of bargain anyway. However as a sex slave her owner - i.e. pimp - could make the bargain and sell her services for his own profit.

Some women (and even men) actually do make that choice to work as a "sex worker" as they call it in Holland. There it is a legal, almost normal job you can possibly even put on your CV... Some people can even get the services of a "sex worker" prescribed by a doctor, and then they do not have to pay...

You say women should not be allowed to make such a choice... well in reality they do. As an outsider all you can do is point out the likely consequences of their choice for the rest of their lives, but at the end of the day we are all to make our own choices, even the bad ones.

Sometimes it is because of circumstances... debts, a drug addiction, rent arrears ... you could say the choice is not entirely free in such circumstances, but then you can say that about most things we choose: Whenever we choose the lesser of two evils, are we making a free choice?

As to "pimps", some prostitutes consider them a necessity to protect them in case of violent customers, some will not have anything to do thing them.

Yes, I appreciate that - but I was talking in the context of Mohammed and his tribe's women - "free" and slave. There the pimp would be owner, rather than protector.
