The age of Ayesha

Post by antineoETC »

For 1400 years Muslims have had no problems with Ayesha being 6 and 9 years old respectively when the prophet of Islam married and consumated his marriage to her. It is well worth inputting the relevent keywords at Youtube to see how Muslims "deal" with this matter. A common one is to claim that she was, contrary to centuries-old Islamic tradition, actually 19. Another is to claim that girls back then matured much younger and to cite instances of child brides of European rulers etc in an effort to place Muhammad's behavior in its proper "context". Many Muslim commentators are very exercised at the way Muhammad's relationship with Ayesha is being "used" to "attack" Islam by its enemies. The comments by Muslims ( including many women) at the bottom of these videos display an eager appetite for such denials/justifications.

The problem with this is that some Muslims are still following the example of the prophet and marrying underage girls in the 21st Century.

Quran 33:21:

Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for whoever has hope in Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah often.
Islam: an idea to kill and die for.

This is a very tough reality for muslims. I feel sorry for them especially those living in West. They feel embarrass talking about this, they feel ashamed, they basically go speechless.. it's something very difficult to if not impossible to defend. Those living in Muslim countries are ok because no one dares to talk about this topic.

A bit of 'tough love' is required here. Feelings of embarrassment and shame should be played on relentlessly: "How could anybody CHOOSE to belong to a religion that endorses such DISGUSTING behavior???" etc etc..
