Re: Which browser you are using?I'm surprised so many people are using firefox. I figured everyone's on the IE. But firefox is way better than IE. And there's even an IE tab add-on for firefox if you really need to use IE. It's cool because you can switch between browsers, on just a single tab. Mozilla's far superior.

Re: Which browser you are using?
I figured the oposite. I am surprised there are still people who use IE. ![]()
Re: Which browser you are using?
Oh no way. Firefox (orange) is only 17% of the market. IE (blue) is almost 70%. Upward and onward in the fight against Islamic tyranny

I think you taken the image from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_shar ... b_browsers On the same page, scroll down and check how different companies giving contradictory reports. Their reports are based on visitors on their site/associate sites. So data is not correct. e.g. If you check traffic of any site on alexa, you can get traffic details of people who are using alexa toolbar but how many having alexa toolbar installed? I know few companies and media also compile their full report by using data of 100 people only specially during elections.▄█▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀█▄

Re: Which browser you are using?I run a network of websites and my traffic is about 50% IE, 30% Firefox and 20% other.
Re: Which browser you are using? It's also beyond me why people would use IE. It's slow and it's a major security problem.
Re: Which browser you are using?
Yes, but there's also those usage statistics and continuous add-ons. So there's probably a more accurate way of determining who's using what. And IE is standard with basically any pc that is purchased. I would imagine most people are just lazy that they wouldn't take the extra effort to switch to opera or firefox, netscape, etc. There's no way it's a 50/50 market. IE has to be at least 65% BTW, I just tried to do a regular quote of your post and I was given the following: You may embed only 3 quotes within each other. That's new. Re: Which browser you are using? When I first got to Internet, there was only one browser: Netscape.
I'm still using it and like it very much. Old habits die hard... I was also using a mackintosh back then, way better for artists But got used to a PC when Steve Jobs got away from Apple... Now of course it's coming back, all along with Steve and the iPod frenzy! Authority has the same etymological root as authenticity.
Re: Which browser you are using?I just noticed this poll now. Firefox on PC and Opera on PDA - but only because it came bundled and works better on Windows Mobile 5 (which as an operating system stinks to high heaven).
In the spirit of Nomad who I haven't seen here at FFI in ages and sorely miss, I plan to eventually take the great leap into open source. I've tried a couple of times before and wanted to go to the zoo and shoot a Penguin. But now they tell me that it's become more user friendly. Firefox is open source, isn't it? “The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children.”

Re: Which browser you are using?
You can try ubuntu or debian desktop versions with KDE or gnome (KDE is my fav.) If still scared with penguin, try portable ubuntu (http://portableubuntu.sourceforge.net/) on your windows os Firefox is not 100% opensource thats why debian was forced to change its name to iceweasel ▄█▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀█▄

Re: Which browser you are using?Thank you, Brain. I'll try them as soon as I'm unemployed and have enough time for trial and error. In the meantime, I want to learn to use multi-platform editor "VIM" so that when I make the switch, I'll feel comfortable (seeing as translating and writing absurdly long posts at FFI are my bread, butter and beer).
I was told that the learning curve for VIM (a favorite among code programmers like you ) is long, but well worth it. Real Object oriented programming is for my next life, but I like to make simple editing macros for my needs and VIM allows a lot of easy personalization.I liked the shareware world of the ancient DOS prophets, who had names and addresses. The open source world is more from Das Volk, but millions of people working for billions of people is noble... Not that I see Bill Gates as the devil. In that department I'm increasingly worried about Google. It's a wonderful resource, but the fact that they are keeping track of you and selling that info... and the fact that they can tweak results to hide what info comes first... is worrisome. I wish there were a search engine as good as Google, but not just "Open Source" but also "Open Result"... info for the sake of info and not also collected to figure out that you like boxer shorts instead of briefs. Anyway, as usual I'm straying off topic and so, thanks for the advice and thank you for the excellent work you're doing here at FFI. “The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children.”

Re: Which browser you are using?
This project is already underway and many people working on it. A prototype is working at http://search.wikia.com/ Google is already worried on this and trying to steal the concept(which they always do). If you login at gmail and try to search, they are giving feature moving sites up and down in their ranking. I'm also bit worried with google but not much. In past 15 years, i seen so many things shooting up and then going down in drain as soon as they try to monopolize. There was time when ask and jeev were on top, sun was taking over all web technologies, red hat was trying to steal open source code, microsoft was becoming synonyms of PC, y2k and lots of other events but nobody was able to be "owner" of information super highway. For me, IT is just like a big river and better swim with it or swim opposite its current but never try to block its flow. ▄█▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀█▄

Re: Which browser you are using?Ciao Brain,
IT is just like a big river and better swim with it or swim opposite its current but never try to block its flow. You really can't think of scenarios in which it would be better to block the flow of information to all? I mean Invasive information? Me can think plenty. Your health records, whereabouts, banking, national security (and that's without even thinking too hard). Nothing done by man to man is just a flowing river unless you're just watching and not giving a damn. The Koyannisqatsi perspective. “The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children.”

Re: Which browser you are using?
What is different about this wikia? What exactly is the concept? I'm assuming that it's a subsidiary of wikipedia? I didn't know that google search listings are auctioned off. makes sense though. Upward and onward in the fight against Islamic tyranny
Re: Which browser you are using?
You interpreted my point in different way. Your person records are not yet in this river. Take an example of youtube. They are trigger happy and blocks any video without proper notification and same video comes on 100 different channels or take example of paris hilton. She tried to block her personal video and it became more easily available. I mean to say - swim with it = Use current technologies swim opposite = Invent new technologies never try to block = Monopoly is not possible ▄█▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀█▄

Re: Which browser you are using?
I use Scroogle Scraper quite often but when I want to find photos and graphics I usually go to Google. Don't be a believer but a heretic unto yourself.
