Paedophilia in Islam (revisited)

This section of the forum is NOT for discussions. It is a database of documents, websites, books and other resources, to provide skeptics with the materials to compose their articles refuting Islam. Please place your links in the appropriate thread. If your material needs a new thread, please advise me first. We do not want to clutter this DB with too many threads that may be similar. Do not copy and paste. Give full references and make sure the source is reliable. If you want to rebut any of the documents posted here, use another thread in other sections of the forum.

Permissibility does not imply its use in the majority. Think of it like the divorce law. Islam allows it but does not mean you have to carry it out. Islam caters for all situations hence the rulings for marriage. In this verse, we see that Allah Almighty in some cases considers a slave to be better than a free human being

^This is NOT the place for discussion. This is the resource.

Anyway, since this came up, an islamic answer to the 'Aisha was a 48 year old virgin playing with dolls'-claim:

Title:

Was Hazrat Ayesha (ra) the Sister of Abu Bakr (ra)?

Question:

I have been reading your site for last one year and found it very useful in clearing lots of confusion and doubts from my mind, especially the way you presented your point of view about ayesha's [ra] age at time of her marriage. May allah reward you for this excellent work.

I was reading English translation of book ' DO [two] Islam ' written by Dr. Barq. I have come to know some thing new which i wish to share with you and want your opinion.

'Contrary to the Imamist propaganda, the exalted Prophet had no more than one wife at a time. Hazrat Ayesha was a sister, and not a daughter of Hazrat Abu Bakr. The Prophet (S) did not marry for three years after Hazrat Khadijah's demise in Makkah, three years before Hijrah. Hazrat Ayesha was the widow of a martyr, Saleh bin Saleh Al-'Ataib. She was 48 years old at the time of marriage to the exalted Prophet. Sahaba Kiraam including Hazrat Abu Bakr strongly recommended that the Prophet (S) and she get into the solemn union of marriage. The blessed wedding took place in 622 CE when Muhammad (S) was 52 years old.(Ref: Kitab-e-Dalail-e-Nabawwut Syedna Muhammad (S), by Abdul Jabbar Qaramati, written 150 years before Tabari, the first ever 'canonized' historian. Azwaaj-in-Nabi wal-Ashaab, by Sheikh Hammad bin Hakam). The rest is nothing but slanderous imagination of the Zoroastrian "Imam" Tabari and the Jewish biographer Ibn Ishaq and his Parsi follower Ibn Hisham].

I have pasted the whole paragraph from page 40.

Answer:

Thank you for your compliments, we are glad that you have found this website helpful. It is of course always necessary to remain open minded and to correct our traditional understandings as appropriate.

In doing so, however, it is important to make sure we accept a new understanding of an issue because of its superior basis, and not merely because we feel that we are uncomfortable with the traditional understanding of that issue.

The Prophet (pbuh) having one wife at a time and Ayehsa (ra) being the sister of Abu Bakr (ra) rather than his daughter is in contrary to numerous reports given in almost all of the books of history and Hadith. This by itself is not a problem if we can see a detailed academic analysis of these reports to show:

1. all these historical accounts and reports are unreliable and

2. the reports that support this rare opinion are actually reliable.

I'm afraid that comments like "Zoroastrian [sic] Imam Tabari and the Jewish [sic] biographer Ibn Ishaq and his Parsi [sic] follower Ibn Hisham" have absolutely no academic merit. As such, the stated opinions, at best, can be regarded as quoting rarely narrated reports from a couple of not-so-very popular books. I am happy to examine the reliability of these reports if I can have access to the original text with complete Isnad (chains of narrators). Unfortunately these are not available to me at present.

Since this came up again, I'll repost it here, since the original site seems to have disappeared.
