A history programme on the BBC probably fits better here than elsewhere. It's The History Hour on the World service. Of four sections, the middle two relate to the effect of Islam. The first is a fairly accurate account of the Danish cartoon madness. The second is an account of the effect of the proto-Taliban on musicians in Afghanistan. Including foreshadowing of IS: a musician was threatened with burning alive, if caught. Evidently the Taliban didn't understand Islam either.
Some of these programmes are kept on file at the BBC but it should be available or 30 days anyway.

Both featured earlier as individual items in the Witness series.

Barbary Pirates and the White Slave Trade
Witness
Between the 16th and 19th centuries, hundreds of thousands of Europeans were captured by pirates known as the Barbary corsairs. Many spent the rest of their lives in slavery in North Africa.
