“In the name of God, the Merciful and Compassionate,” said McCarrick. That, of course, is the heading on 113 of the Qur’an’s 114 chapters. The only one that doesn’t begin with that is surat at-tawba, sura 9, which contains the exhortation to Muslims to fight against Jews and Christians until they “pay the jizya with willing submission and feel themselves subdued” (9:29). Cardinal McCarrick seems quite submissive already.

Thanks to Robert Spencer for his illuminations on what this crackpot Cardinal is actually doing.

“Catholic Cardinal McCarrick Embraces Islam,” Daily Caller, September 14, 2014

Catholic Cardinal Theodore McCarrick offered Islamic religious phrases and insisted that Islam shares foundational rules with Christianity, during a Sept. 10 press conference in D.C.

“In the name of God, the Merciful and Compassionate,” McCarrick said as he introduced himself to the audience at a meeting arranged by the Muslim Public Affairs Council. That praise of the Islamic deity is an important phrase in Islam, is found more than 100 times in the Koran, and is akin to the Catholic prayer, ”In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”

McCarrick next claimed that “Catholic social teaching is based on the dignity of the human person… [and] as you study the holy Koran, as you study Islam, basically, this is what Muhammad the prophet, peace be upon him, has been teaching.”

McCarrick was 71 when 19 Muslims brought Islam to the public eye by murdering 3,000 Americans on 9/11. He is one of the 213 Cardinals of the Catholic church, but is too old to vote in church debates.

“Either the cardinal has studied the whole thing and does not know what he’s talking about, or he is making a somewhat misleading statement,” said Michael Meunier, head of the U.S. Copts Association. “The practice of the Muslim majority people that adhere to the Koran… have proven that [claim of equivalence] is not correct,” he told The Daily Caller during a Sept. 11 trip to Jordan.

“Has Cardinal McCarrick converted to Islam?” asked a scornful critic, Robert Spencer, the best-selling author of many books on Islam.

“‘Peace be upon him’ is a phrase Muslims utter after they say the name of [their reputed] prophet… [so] probably he is unaware of the unintended Islamic confession of faith he has just made,”said Spencer, who runs the Jihadwatch.org website.

McCarrick is wrong to say “that Islam teaches the dignity of every human person,“ Spencer said. “Actually, it teaches a sharp dichotomy between the Muslims, [who are called] ‘the best of people’ and the unbelievers [are called] ‘the most vile of created beings,’” Spencer told TheDC.

I am not sure that he actually became a Muslim, but he certainly acts like one. I have no explanation, except perhaps he is blissfully ignorant of Islam and believes anything Muslims tell him, or he is getting senile...

What is generally worth noting is that the Vatican is seriously intimidated by Islam...

The last time Islam was even officially discussed was in the 1960s in the second Vatican Council, when this statement was made (in the document nostra aetate...)

The Church regards with esteem also the Muslims. They adore the one God, living and subsisting in Himself; merciful and all-powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to men.

This was of course before the Islamic violence was universally felt in the West.

The Church and the bishops in the Council has simply taken the line to state as much common ground with ALL other religions as they possibly can, and remaining silent on differences. The statement is a rather ambiguous one nonetheless:

Sure Muslims pray to one God. But is it the SAME God as the Christian one? Note the text is diplomatically silent on that. Two men can be married each to ONE woman, but that does not mean they are married to the SAME woman. Christian believe that God has done more that "spoken" to men. They believe in the incarnation and the trinity, something the Council specifically upholds, and something Muslims explicitly reject. The same God? The Council does not mention that Allah is the "best of deceivers", that he "tortured whoever he wants", that he sanctions rape, looting and violence. To be fair most bishops would be blissfully unaware of any of that.

In more recent times pope Benedict tried to discuss Islam from a more informed point of view, and made a speech in Regensburg quoting various historical sources. This pope is an extremely well studied bishop, one who had a very distinguished academic career before becoming a bishop, so it is safe to assume that he knows Islam very well. The result of his very modest talk was "offence" in Muslim circles, and the murder of a whole series of priests monks and nuns. He got scared and tried to make "amends".

Since then the Vatican is silent on Islam. I think even the current pope understands Islam perfectly well but he has chosen to tread carefully to avoid violent reactions. Upsetting Muslims means deaths.

In other words, the Vatican has gone dhimmi.

And this bishop has perhaps gone further that most others.

It is interesting to note that the Vatican reaction to Islam is rather similar to its reaction to the Nazi regime ... deliberate ambiguity, "something for everybody", and no upsetting anyone...

I fully agree with your post. The catholic church want to “build bridges connecting all people” , but they forget they embrace a viper and not a lamb. Muslims will never be catholics if that is what they hope. I bet it is just the other way about. Young catholics embraces Islam and convert .

Proverbs 27:5 says, “Open rebuke is better that secret love.” Islam will be the downfall of Rome. At this moment, I do not mind if it does. I am fed up with all those left wings Christian islam lovers.

I think it is fear, not love of Islam.
The non Muslims are like a rabbit in the headlight.
The next generation will have two choices. Fight or submit.
