20:95 He replied: "I saw what they saw not: so I took a handful (of dust) from the footprint of the Messenger, and threw it (into the calf): thus did my soul suggest to me."
That line is interpreted by Quran commentators as meaning that he (Samiri) had seen Gabriel walking around in the Sinai and that his footprint dust was thought by him to have special powers. Slight problem with that, because the first appearance of Gabriel in the Bible is with Daniel, around the time of the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem, a time long after Moses. In fact he only appears in Daniel and Luke. So how would Samiri have known what Gabriel looked like and why would he not be shocked that he showed up for the first time in the history of the world?
The Bible does say " Exodus 3 New International Version (NIV)
Moses and the Burning Bush
3 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.
4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.”
Alright, so an angel, possibly Gabriel, is with Moses and the Burning bush. So how did Samiri see him down there with them walking around? And how is it that Samiri was the only person who had the ability to see him?
