Corpus coranicum - Koran debunkedAngelika Neuwirth has published a book reporting progress of the "Corpus Coranicum" project to analyse the Sanaa Koran manuscripts (and others?). She seems to have ruled out (or simply ignored) any idea of a divine origin and considers that it was developed over time by Mohammed aided and abetted by discussion with his friends. There's a quite difficult article about what is probably a very difficult book, which as a minimum seems to rule out a handed-down unalterable book for all men for all time. This, note, is from a modern German academic study of real manuscripts. So you know it makes sense (I'm sure you did anyway
Will the literalists now pipe down? I doubt it!

Re: Corpus coranicum - Koran debunkedIn Gabriel Said Reynold's new books, he actually points out that Neuwirth is part of the movement to keep the most critical scholarship out of the public eye, and to downplay a multiple authorship. She has ties to modern-day Nazi supporters too. During and after WW2, the Nazis lied about manuscripts and photographs being destroyed (they weren't). Also, in his The Qur'an and its Biblical Subtext he takes apart her school of thought which follows the old Nöldeke timeline of Meccan and Medinan suras. This is based wholely on the Islamic literature and tafsir, making it a medieval theological exercise. She doesn't take John Wansbrough seriously either.
You can check the thread "Armstrong on KFR" for some more posts I did on this, and sample pages on Reynolds. De los sus ojos tan - fuertemente llorando,

Re: Corpus coranicum - Koran debunkedThanks for that - I thought she seemed a bit soft on Islam. Time for me to do some further reading!
Re: Corpus coranicum - Koran debunkedYou mean Armstrong or Angelika?

Right, I couldn't decided if you meant Angelika or not with your previous statement, but I can't imagine in this day and age anyone taking Armstrong seriously!!! Glad someone agrees with me. Ansar, I'll have to check out those videos. De los sus ojos tan - fuertemente llorando,
