An interesting point. There may be others who are new to phpBB forums and aren't sure how to use them, If there's a beginner's guide somewhere, maybe we could link to it on the index page?

What you are referring to is called signature. To write one, follow these steps:

User Control Panel > Edit Profile> Edit Signature >Submit
