Labour MP Sadiq Khan

Postby Bob » Sun Jul 25, 2010 7:56 am

I was watching Question Time last Thursday on BBC 1. One of the pannelists was Labour MP and shadow Transport Minister Sadiq Khan. At one point, David Dimbleby turned to Khan and referred to him as a Muslim. Khan replied "Actually I'm agnostic" and carried on with his answer. What I find interesting about this is that one automatically assumes that because somone is of a Muslim background that they are inevitably of the Islamic persuasion. No TV presenter (at least in Europe) would automatically assume that a politician must be a Christian because his name is John Smith or Francois Fillon.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I find that too that someone is assumed to be muslim based on their name or appearance.

Tornaba la cabeza - y estábalos catando.
