Diabetes

Post by pr126 »

I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2013 which was quite severe to start with, as I may have had the symptoms for a long time before the diagnosis.

2 years ago after researching about the condition I found it is not a life long illness and can be reversed with diet and intermittent fasting. (Autophagy when fasting.)

So I have embarked on this diet and now for the second year I have normal glucose levels, lost weight and free of (diabetes) medications.

The main "cure" is ketogenic diet. Keeping carbohydrate down to 39 gr per day or less.
Fasting 16 hours daily and longer in the weekends.

Diabetes must be talen seriously because of the complications that can and in some cases will occur like retinopathy, liver and kidney damage, amputations, and other nasty things if it is not controlled.

Obesity is often the cause of diabetes and shorter life.

Anyone here with diabetes?

Hello pr126

Your quote -

Your diet is somewhere along the lines of the Atkins diet.

If you stick to what you say, I am in awe of your strength of character. Keep it going. Good luck.

I am not a diabetic and hope to stay that way.

Yes me..I know about your diet , and I know all about keeping carbohydrate down, but...Since 7 years ago, I was diagnosed with hashimoto disease, My thyroid does not work anymore, and strange as it may look, I now, do not like meat, or vegetables anymore. I try to eat them, but most of the time without succes.

I do not know if my aversion of cooked food is there because of the medicine . But... :clueless:

I do like bread though. And I know I should not eat carbohydrate products.

But I am only human, and if I look at the Hashimoto diet, :no1: I do not want to live like that. I want to have some life. All the things I do like are forbidden. Like most fruits , cheese and milk and bread.

So I swallow my diabetes medications. My glucose levels is not too bad I think. ( 7 mmol/l )

For 6 years I followed the Atkins diet. And then, one day, I was fed up with it.

I was lucky, and have not got that.... Given my age and the time it takes to get seriously ill from it, I follow the seefood diet... See food and eat it.

I make my own “keto” bread with 0.8 gram carb per slice.
I make cakes, cookies, virtually anything with minimum carbs.
YouTube has thousands of keto and low carb Recipes, even chocolate.
Search for keto or low carb. Of course you have to cook them yourself.
I do cook fresh food every day. Also exercise. Long walks daily listening to audiobooks.

Measuring blood glucose after every meal. That’s how you know your progress.

Weight down 67 kg. Feeling fine.

I am making this on Sunday.
