For all the ladies out there who've always had a sneaky suspicion they are smarter than men, we have an affirming piece of news for you: Women's IQ scores have surpassed men for the first time in recorded history. Although females have traditionally lagged behind on IQ scores -- at times trailing the guys by five points -- the gap has been closing, and leading expert James Flynn says the new test challenges former beliefs about genetic differences. One theory is that juggling work and kids has made women better multi-taskers, thus raising IQ. Another theory is women have a slightly higher potential intelligence that is only now being realized due to modernity.

Whether IQ tests are an accurate measure of intelligence is debated. It is difficult to define what constitutes intelligence; instead, it may be the case that IQ represents a type of intelligence.

IQ is the most researched approach to intelligence and by far the most widely used in practical setting. However, although IQ attempts to measure some notion of intelligence, it may fail to act as an accurate measure of "intelligence" in its broadest sense. IQ tests only examine particular areas embodied by the broadest notion of "intelligence", failing to account for certain areas which are also associated with "intelligence" such as creativity or emotional intelligence.

There are critics such as Keith Stanovich who do not dispute the stability of IQ test scores or the fact that they predict certain forms of achievement rather effectively. They do argue, however, that to base a concept of intelligence on IQ test scores alone is to ignore many important aspects of mental ability.

This has always been a problem with intelligence tests: they tend to be designed by people brought up and influenced by a particular culture. However, it has got better over the years. Some psychologists, such as Eysenck went so far as to say that there are real differences in intelligence in different "races", but most would argue that these are caused by deficiencies in the tests, as supposed to real differences. For example, 3D is represented differently in some cultures in Africa, so subjects with these backgrounds taking an IQ test are at a disadvantage. Also, IQ is supposed be a measure of ability, not really learned actual skills and knowledge. Yet, questions about number sequences for example are common, and anyone with knowledge how to work them out has an advantage. There is also evidence that people get better at these tests as they practice, which is a real problem.

LOL..I think, manfred could understand why I posted this thread in the first place! I just wanted to show people that the study has disproved mesogynist and bedouin Moh's ultimate claims of most of women being unintelligent.

Exactly, also different time periods can have an effect on the results. I read somewhere that Abraham Lincoln or a similar intellectual from that era would have scored very poorly on an IQ test, despite being undeniably intelligent.

Please tell us if you think that the intelligence of men and women is the same or that one sex is more intelligent than the other.

I think this is mostly due to males being absorbed in a anti-male education system. Even if males and females are of equal intelligence, males ought to be more competive and decisive(testosterone) by nature and therefore score higher.
