Re: Hadith Timelines

Sorry, marduk, I'm not interested in the hadith and I'm especially not interested in your obsession with pooing and peeing (how old are you?!). I want to know - as I said in my original post - does anyone have any reliable information about who collected the ahadith, and when? BT x

Hadith Timelines

Hello peeps! I hope someone can help me with this little conundrum: As far as I have been able to work out, the first ahadith collections were started by a guy called Muwatta Malik (CE 715 - 801). I thought that the ahadith were collected by interviewing people who had actually heard Muhammad speak ...

Re: Forthcoming BBC Muhammad doc

Third and final episode: all is now clear. The thinly-veiled purpose of this programme is to put a positive spin on Islam and to communicate a message to Muslims and non-Muslims alike: Islam and Muhammad bring a message of peace, not war. Muhammad preached "reconciliation, not revenge" (justified he...

Re: Forthcoming BBC Muhammad doc

What's most worrying is the blithe acceptance of the material on which they base their information. At least it was admitted that the Medina Constitution could not be verified as authentic. It's a pity they didn't dig deeper and try to find hard evidence that Muhammad existed at all, although I imag...

Interesting take on the programme from the Telegraph. (Isn't Tariq Ramadan cute? (misguided, but cute...)) BT x

Re: Evidence for the first Hijra in Ethiopia

Hi marduk

You say,
So Muhammad really did dictate that incredibly arrogant letter.
Do you have any sources which verify the authenticity of that letter?

Thanks

Re: Forthcoming BBC Muhammad doc

Ibn Rushd - in answer to your Q, mainly the reliance on the copy of the Qur'an supposedly AD 651 in the Topkapi museum, but also placing great weight on Muhammad and the Qur'an being inseperable and suggesting that there was much more mention of him in it than there is. Yes, they did wheel out the p...

Re: Forthcoming BBC Muhammad doc

I just watched a re-run on British TV - BBC 2: whilst Omar is obviously a believer, the programme does at least go so far as to hint at the doubt that Mecca could have existed in early to mid 7th century and that there is no evidence to suggest that the Kaaba was anything other than a pagan shrine. ...

Re: Muhammad -Myth vs Reality.

A quick question for Cat (and anyone else who cares to comment, of course...): I came across mention of a certain 'Sebeos' who is supposed to have been one of the first chroniclers of 'Muhammad' in year approx. 660 or so. This led me to the following: http://www.islamic-awareness.org/History/Islam/I...

Re: Muhammad -Myth vs Reality.

Hello Phillo (that has a nice ring to it!). Just curious to have your take on your assumptions: Mecca's current location at the time of the revealing of the Koran and at the time of Mohammad since this thread and others like it are demonstrating that a) the Qur'an wasn't 'revealed', but was a series...

Re: Muhammad -Myth vs Reality.

Really, those who want to defend Islam should bring irrefutable proof that what they believe is true. Of course they can't and will never be able to, and in the meantime, more and more evidence that it can't be builds up from sources which are hard to refute. Cat digs deep and brings us evidence to ...
